The Bar Game

Slightly Scandalous

One screen above the bar. Everybody’s phone. Nobody’s real name. The room finds out who’s funny, and it is almost never who you would have picked.

How it works

One long writing window, then a fast run through the answers.

1
The questions go up
All ten at once, on the screen everyone can see. You get 15 minutes to answer as many as you like, in any order — and the screen tells you when time is running out.
2
Everyone answers
On their own phone, under a made-up handle, at whatever pace suits them. Nobody knows who wrote what.
3
The room votes
The screen takes the questions one at a time, answers lettered, forty seconds each. You can vote for your own — the bar can switch that off if it would rather.
4
A vote is a point
Every vote your answer draws is a point. Scores and the best answers of the night come up at the end.
10 questions · about 30 minutes a round · most rooms play two or three

That’s the whole game. It takes longer to explain than to learn.

Pick your door

Two ways in, depending on which side of the bar you’re on.

You’re at the bar
Point your camera at the screen. That’s the whole sign-up.
There is a QR code up there, and a four-character room code with it if your camera is being difficult. Either one, then pick a handle and you’re playing. No download, no sign-up, no email. When you leave, nothing follows you home.

You run the bar
A screen and internet. That is the entire equipment list.
Fill in a short form and your two codes appear on the page straight away — no email to wait for, no date to commit to. Pick how far it goes, put the room code on the screen, and press Start the night when the room fills up. It’s free, and nobody from here needs to talk to you.

How far it goes

The venue picks the temperature before the night starts.

Rounds are drawn from the levels the bar chose and everything below them, so an evening can start gentle and climb. A Tuesday and a bachelorette party are not the same room, and the game shouldn’t pretend otherwise.

Low
Flirty. Fine at the church social.
Medium
A bit risqué. Cheeky rather than filthy.
High
Plainly sexual. The euphemisms are gone.
Over the Top
Explicit. Nothing off the table.
The fine print, briefly

The one hard rule still applies.

Be cool. Nobody gets hurt. Answers are anonymous to the room and aren’t attached to an account — there isn’t one. 18+ only. Venues agree to the terms for running a game at setup, and a room code can be shut off at any time by the bar. If the screen’s blank and you were promised a game, the staff console is where someone at the bar starts it.
